Athletics and exercise are an integral component of our daily lives. Whether we are bettering ourselves personally at our local health club, training for a specific event, performing at the student athlete level or visiting our alma mater for a homecoming event, sports and fitness are at the heart of the experience. S3 Design understands that the design profoundly impacts the relationship between the people and the facilities where they exercise, train, perform and compete.
S3 Design’s practice is dedicated to planning, architecture and interior design for sports & recreation facilities, health & fitness clubs, and spas & wellness facilities. These facilities present an opportunity to foster the spirit and identity of a campus, a private health club brand, or a wellness center. We understand that design can create an environment that promotes athletics, fitness and wellness to encourage an active, healthy lifestyle for all.
S3 Design brings the technical knowledge of specific issues related to the design of these types of projects. While it is essential to execute the technical aspects of sports design, our true passion is rooted in the creation of the user experience. We firmly believe that successful projects harness the spirit of the place or brand. Our design process develops unique solutions to each of our clients’ needs. There is no universal solution. Taking a project beyond expectations depends on a keen understanding of our clients’ goals and aspirations. In the end, it is the interaction between participants and the facility that determines its success.

Sal is a founding principal of S3 Design, and has 30 years of experience in the planning and design of facilities on college and university campuses. He is an award-winning designer with expertise focused on athletics and recreational projects. Central to his work is the execution of projects within the master plan and campus context. He has demonstrated design leadership in meeting project objectives and goals. Sal regularly participates in conferences as a presenter and panel speaker, and has received several awards including an academic fellowship, Henry Adams Certificate and James Britton prize for best thesis design. He is typically involved throughout the project and his collaborative, hands-on approach assures stakeholder input will be a valued part of the design process.

Principal, Interior DesignerBryan Dunkelberger

Bryan is a founding principal of S3 Design, and an interior designer with 30 years of professional experience working with a variety of corporate and institutional clients. He has been recognized for expertise in the design and planning of fitness centers and other sports and recreation facilities. His focus is on project leadership and encompasses all phases of design from initial schematic through owner occupancy. Bryan has an extensive understanding of functional relationships, facility flow, performance of materials and finishes. His leadership provides the team with a design approach centered on the creation of a quality user experience that balances and integrates technical and aesthetic priorities.

Associate PrincipalSteve Fellmeth

As a Senior Project Designer with over 15 years of experience, Steve graduated with his Masters in 2005 from Northeastern University. He has been a member of the S3 Design team for the past 7+ years leading a variety of fitness projects for clients such as New York Sports Club and Equinox Sports Clubs. In addition to fitness design, Steve has been part of S3 Design’s Athletics Master Planning growth for Division II & III schools. His design skills and understanding of clients’ goals, blended with his love of sports, provide a balanced insight into user’s needs in achieving a successful project. Prior to S3 Design, Steve was part of an award-winning team for the Northeastern University Veterans Memorial competition.
Megan Fitzgerald
Senior Project Designer-
Megan Fitzgerald has over ten years of experience with eight of those years dedicated to sports design with S3 Design. She brings the ability to visualize space, conceptualize solutions, and develop comprehensive drawings for construction. Megan is an innovative professional capable of dynamic designs with a distinctive tectonic and material sensibility. She works collaboratively and personably with associates and clients.

Vilma is a Project Designer with almost 10 years of design experience. Her goal is to bring architectural design into life, creating joyous spaces, and giving meaning to every kind of shape, while enjoying the phases of creation. She brings an attention to detail and is challenged on a daily basis working both individually and as part of a team. Since joining our team at S3 Design, Vilma has brought her enthusiasm, work rigor and BIM experience to project teams.

Patricia Connery
Marketing Coordinator/
Office Administrator-
As the Marketing Coordinator for S3 Design, Patricia brings almost 30 years of experience as a Freelance Graphic Designer. She has a demonstrated history of working in the design industry with skills in Graphics, Logo Design, Typography, and Adobe Creative Suite. She has also used her graphic skills over the years to assist non-profits with their marketing needs. Patricia is a strong arts and design professional with a Bachelor’s Degree focused in Graphic/Studio Arts from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Prior to joining S3, Patricia used her skills to serve as Church Coordinator of The Lutheran Church of the Savior and Brand Coordinator for the Jeff Dahlke for Congress campaign as well as volunteering as VP of Communications for the Boston-based non-profit, Foundation for Faces of Children.

Radu is an accomplished Architectural Designer with almost 20 years of experience and a deep passion for creating beautiful and sustainable architecture. His objective is to embraced innovation and utilize his expertise to design functional and visually captivating spaces. With a dedication to delivering projects that not only inspire but also prioritize sustainability, surpassing client expectations, he is enthusiastic about collaborating with the S3 Design team to continuously push the boundaries of architectural design.

Kevin Chea

Kevin has 15+ years of experience in the A/E/C industry. His wide-ranging background covers real estate & development, construction management, and design and planning in various market sectors of architecture (Residential, Hospitality, Health & Wellness, Themed Entertainment, Higher Education, Government, Dept of Defense). All these tools allow him to have a unique lens on a project and offer a well-rounded approach which incorporates not only the architecture and engineering; but also provides for an understanding and implementation of a client’s intent and their process with their stakeholders. The ability to control and forecast these factors assists with delivering a successful project.
Kristen Landell

Kristen is one of our newest team members and is a Project Designer with 7 years of design experience in Architecture, Interior Design and Construction. She has a hunger to learn from and grow with the best. She is highly organized, innovative, and reliable with a strong work ethic as well as organizational and interpersonal skills. Since joining our team at S3 Design, she has demonstrated a high degree of integrity and enthusiasm as well as a commitment to ensuring ongoing team success. Kristen is also fitness instructor and teaches multiple functional training classes at three local health clubs in Central, FL and looks forward to using her experience in the design of our health and fitness projects.
Sarafina Risselin

A recent graduate of UCF’s architecture program, Sarafina is one of our newest team members of our Florida office. Prior to joining S3, Sarafina worked in commercial/retail architecture with a focus on detailed and coordinated construction drawings. She is a former track & field student-athlete which allows her to apply her experience to her design process. Her competitive spirit is a welcome addition to S3.

Emelly’s vibrant and fresh perspective on graphic design has been impactful since joining S3 Design Inc. A 2020 graduate from the University of Tampa, Emelly began her career creating brand assets and digital marketing campaigns in both independent and collaborative efforts. Her passion for storytelling through experience has led to the transition into the built environment, weaving together elements of graphic design with architecture and interiors. Emelly’s design style thrives on collaboration, research of trends, and creative problem-solving to ensure each project evokes a unique and lasting experience.
